Award Description: The Jorge Paulo Lemann Fellowship Award will support Brazilian post-doctoral investigators pursuing training in either basic or clinical research. This fellowship was created to foster the training of young Brazilian physicians or medical scientists in research and interchange between American and Brazilian cardiovascular researchers.
Duration of award: The award will begin on or about April 1, 2012 and continue for two years.

Eligibility requirements:
- MD, MD/PhD, or PhD or equivalent;
- Candidate must have completed some residency or fellowship training in internal medicine or cardiovascular disease and/or have demonstrated great promise as a cardiovascular investigator. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated a strong commitment to cardiovascular research. Preference will be given to candidates in the earlier phases of their careers;
- The application must include a letter of support from a responsible official of their home institution indicating a commitment to and plan for developing the research career of the candidate and the availability of resources and protected time for a career with meaningful research potential upon return to Brazil;
- The applicant must submit a personal statement indicating the nature of their interest in cardiovascular research and how a Jorge Paulo Lemann Cardiovascular Research Fellowship at Harvard would help prepare them for their contemplated career;
- Three letters of recommendation are required with the application;
- Individuals already in the United States are not eligible for this award.
